This is a part of one of my favorite scenes so far in the book.

It’s been a long time.  I’ve been working hard on animations. I still have a good amount to go, but here is a short teaser-trailer.  In the next few days/weeks, I’ll be posting small animation renders here and there as i work.

Thinking about Themes
Since the weather has limited my picture taking (for the backgrounds), I’ve been re-editing the story.  As I’ve gone through it, i’ve fixed sentences here and there, but my main focus has been on the theme/moral.  I’ve realized that the theme of my story isn’t defined clearly.  There are in fact two themes right now, that stand out to me.   There’s the one...

Brand New Render Test.  I used Aftereffects to animate the character.  The background art, which i absolutely love, is from Tekkonkinkreet. I watched the movie recently, and i was literally blown-away.  I found some scans of the background paintings here, i decided to use them for test purposes only.  But honestly, if I could find someone good enough to create 16 matte’s like these, i would...

This is a beautiful piece by a few students from Gobelins, a french school for animation. The animation is 3D, but it has a 2D-anime feel. The background matte paintings are incredible.  I’m thinking that I may need to find someone to help create some mattes.

framing
Dario Dr.Pepper Maggiore (artwork below)… frames his artwork in unique ways, that are very similar to the idea i have for the illustrations in the book.  Rather than working in a rectangular shape constantly, i would like to shape the scenes in abstract/organic frames.

Picturebook
Yesterday, at Border’s Bookstore on Broad street, a lightbulb went on.  I read a book called “Illustrating Children’s Books: Creating Pictures for Publication” by Martin Salisbury.  This book really turned the light on for me.  It talked about Picturebooks and Storybooks and the difference between the two.   While the picture’s in Storybooks are there to reinforce or...

STORYTELLER
After my 2nd presentation on the progress of my project, it seems that several people like the idea of a narrated book.  So I am currently looking for voice actors - particular british…like Jim Dale (voice of the Harry Potter Series).  For some reason or another, as I write and edit this story, i find myself reading it in a british accent.  I sent emails to two gentlemen from voices.com to...

Listen-Read-Watch
Since discussing my project with Eitan Mendelowitz last Friday, I’ve been thoroughly thinking about the relationships between reading a story/ watching a story/ and listening to a story.  To have all 3 in my book, seems somewhat pointless, as the experience may simply be like watching a “movie with subtitles”.  However, depending on the story itself, I feel that there is a way in...
